Identifying the photographic opportunity is a significant factor, but capturing the moment effectively is equally important. While equipment can assist, it should not overshadow the first two points.
Transitioning from a compact camera to a bridge camera rekindled my passion for photography. Subsequently, I acquired a Nikon D500 camera body and a 200-500mm f/5.6 lens, which I consider a classic wildlife setup.
Subsequently, I acquired a wide-angle lens, which remains highly valued for all photography opportunities. An interest in prime lenses followed, with a 300mm f/2.8 (although too heavy) and a 500mm f/5.6 PF, which I still possess and enjoy today. Next, I purchased a D850 camera body to transition to full-frame photography, thereby gaining access to more pixels. (I am grateful for the trade-in market at this juncture.)
With mirrorless cameras significantly influencing the evolution of photography, and Nikon releasing a camera body that closely mirrored the D850 and D500, I made the decision to revamp my setup and embrace a novel learning curve. While my initial two points (as previously mentioned) remain unchanged, it is important to note that any camera, regardless of its type, can capture exceptional photographs. This is because the quality of the images ultimately depends on the individual’s enjoyment and ability to identify opportunities.
My current camera setup consists of the following:
Pair of Nikon Z8 Body's
Nikon Z Mount 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6
Nikon F Mount 500mm PF f/5.6
Nikon Z Mount 14-30mm f/4
Nikon Z Mount 35mm f/1.8
Nikon Z Mount 85mm f/1.8**Nikon Z Mount 85mm f/1.8**
Developing and editing your photographs is highly advantageous and can significantly enhance your creative journey. This process encompasses a range of options, from complimentary applications to integrated editing tools, as well as one-time purchases that can be upgraded to subscription models. Regardless of the editing software selected, I have consistently found value in capturing photographs in RAW format, which provides the flexibility to manipulate the data recorded. My current workflow includes the following applications:
Adobe Bridge, Camara Raw, Photoshop/Lightroom, DXO NIK Collection
